The left photo was taken with a Nikon D700 and the right photo was taken with a Canon 5D Mark II. They were both take with the 24-70mm lens @ 1000 shutter and 2.8F. There was no post processing done to these photos. They are straight out of camera RAW.
And…..
I have made my decision. I’m staying with my NIKON D700! I honestly thought I would end up with the Canon 5D Mark II. I have been researching and studying both cameras and I also had the chance to shoot with both and decided that the Nikon was a better fit for me.
So in my OPINION…
Both Cameras are superb pieces of equipment; but, there were certain things about the Nikon that just won me over. I love the menu and button system on the Nikon D700. It seems easier to me and more natural. I do wish that Nikon had a wheel on it like the Canon 5D MarkII . But, I did not like that every time I wanted to move my focal point I had to push a different button before I could do so. With the D700 you just arrow over and you can change your focus point. Other than that they were both pretty easy to use.
I also noticed that the Auto Focus was much faster on the Nikon than the Canon. That really is a plus for me. And, if set correctly, the camera can predict the subject next move. So when I had a fast moving child it would focus according to where it thought that child was moving…which was AWESOME!
When I was editing the full resolution pictures the Nikon was sharper; but I did like how the Canon had a little more depth to it.
I also noticed when I compared shots in low light the Nikon worked much better with less noise at the same settings than the Canon. There was a noticeable difference. At the same settings, the Nikon was always brighter and seems to have better sensitivity to light.
After comparing the pictures, it was hard to tell which picture came from which camera. So obviously, they both take amazing shot. This was a hard decision; but, if I was going to invest in a full frame I wanted to be happy with my decision. For my specific preferences… I choose the Nikon D700. 🙂
